What factors determine the pricing of Codio’s plans?

Codio’s pricing is designed to be transparent and flexible, making it easy to understand precisely what you’re paying for. Your costs are based on the number of active learners you have, with the option to scale up or down as your program grows or changes. Most organizations start with a standard per-learner rate, which is $10 per learner per month for workforce upskilling, bootcamps, and customer training or developer community programs, or $48 per semester (or $90 per year) for higher education. As you add more learners, volume discounts automatically apply, so your per-learner rate can decrease as you grow.

The compute resources you choose also affect your overall cost. While standard containers are included, you have the option to add higher-spec virtual machines, GPUs, or extra memory if your courses require more intensive workloads, such as AI, cybersecurity, or data science labs. Term length is another factor: committing to an annual plan provides significant savings compared to a monthly agreement, which is often preferred by organizations running longer-term programs.

Codio also offers a range of optional add-ons, including access to advanced language models, white-glove onboarding packages, or additional course migrations beyond the first (which is always free). Support options are available to all users through in-platform chat. Those who require it can opt for enhanced support levels or a dedicated customer success manager. With this “pay only for what you need” model, you never pay for unused seats or unnecessary features.

Is there a free trial available?

Yes, Codio offers every new organization a 30-day, fully featured trial. During your trial, you can create as many courses and labs as you like, and you'll have access to live chat support and a free onboarding session with one of our customer success specialists.

Our usage-based pricing model means you don't pay for anything until you're ready to start enrolling learners. At the end of your trial, any content you've created remains available and transfers directly into your paid workspace if you decide to continue. Instructor accounts remain free even after the trial, allowing instructors and content developers to continue developing and refining content at no additional cost.

Can I change my plan later?

Yes, Codio is designed for maximum flexibility. You can add or remove learner seats at any time, with billing automatically adjusted for the next cycle if you are on a monthly plan or prorated for annual agreements. If you require more powerful computing resources for a specific module or project, you can enable them for as long as necessary and easily turn them off afterward.

Codio also simplifies the management of different license models within a single organization, allowing you to run separate workspaces for bootcamps, workforce training, or internal learning and development—all under one master contract. Since licenses are assigned per active learner and can be transferred between cohorts, you maintain full control to utilize your seats wherever they are needed most.

Are there discounts for institutions or non-profits?

Codio offers various options for qualifying organizations to lower costs. Accredited academic institutions benefit from special education pricing, which provides a fixed, low rate per learner per semester. Schools can opt to pay centrally or have students pay directly, depending on their preferred setup.

High-volume customers, such as large universities, MOOC providers, or enterprise workforce programs, receive progressive discounts that can further decrease the per-learner rate. If you believe your organization may qualify, our team is delighted to assist you in exploring all available options.

What’s included in each pricing tier?

Every Codio plan includes unlimited courses and labs, access to the standard Linux container environment, the AI-powered Coach, a modern IDE accessible from any browser, automated feedback and grading, and a full suite of deep learner performance and patented Behavior Insights. You also receive your first course or lab migration at no cost, along with ongoing live chat support to ensure your team is set up for success.

Higher education plans encompass everything mentioned above, along with a complimentary onboarding workshop and compliance features designed to meet data privacy standards, such as FERPA. For organizations seeking more, we offer additional benefits, including a dedicated customer success manager, white-labeling options, and custom service agreements. Popular add-ons, such as enhanced onboarding, premium compute options, and access to advanced analytics, are available as needed.
