Teaching Data Science Essentials with Python or R

This instructional webinar features and demonstrates:

Paired Programming and Other Collaborative Coding

Paired programming has shown many promising benefits in research, ranging from students’ retention and satisfaction to students’ academic performance and program quality. This webinar starts by introducing recommendations around how to effectively implement paired programming in your classroom and then illustrates how Codio’s features make this easier (especially in remote learning contexts). The presenter will also cover peer review and how the same features that enable student collaboration in Codio can also be used by instructional staff for feedback and support purposes.

Adopting Evidence-based Pedagogy

Computer Science education is a quick-moving field making it hard to keep up with all of the innovations. This session will walk you through our research findings of which evidence-based CS pedagogies are most widely adopted, have the most educator excitement around it, and are the most challenging to implement. You will then be provided with resources and demonstrations of how to easily adopt a selection of the evidence-based pedagogy discussed on the Codio platform.

Flexible Computing Education in an Uncertain Semester

Flexibility has become a key component to teaching in a world of hybrid and remote learning. Some instructors who have had to alter their teaching style to accommodate for distanced learning have encountered technical issues along with challenges maintaining student engagement.

Best Practices for Teaching with Codio

How to Boost Student Engagement and Save Time using Auto-Graded Code Tests and Instant Feedback

Introducing auto-grading into the classroom not only boosts student engagement but allows instructors to save up to 20% of the time typically spent on manual grading. Codio offers rich auto-grading support for both formative assessments and code tests. In this learning session, our presenter will share best practices for auto-grading code and providing instant feedback in Codio.

Teaching Introductory CS with Open, Editable Course Resouces

Every classroom is unique—so at Codio, we offer free, editable resources for teachers to mix and match to fit the needs of their students. This webinar walks you through the range of interactive resources offered by Codio for introductory CS courses and illustrates how to easily combine them into a single course. The presenter will also demonstrate how to edit the different aspects of the content - from instructional text and code examples to auto-graded assessments.

Hosting Auto-Graded Tests, Quizzes and Exams in Codio

Computer science instructors are increasingly adding auto-grading tools to save grading and admin time and to meet the needs of students. Codio’s auto-grading feature allows instructors to automate the grading process with scriptless input/output tests, unit tests, style checkers, and more.

How to Create and Use Formative Assessments at Scale

Formative feedback in the broadest sense is information about a student's performance intended to change their behavior or thinking that will improve their learning. This information could be for either the instructor or the student. A primary such activity is formative assessment, which are low-stakes assessments that check a student's understanding while the student is learning that new concept. Examples of formative assessments are quizzes before a lecture based on an assigned reading (or video) and peer instruction questions during a lecture. So how does an instructor create these assessments, incorporate them in a course, and utilize the information gained from them?

How to Effectively Deliver Engaging Online Courses

Due to COVID-19, educators were forced to move classes online, but many lacked the tools to deliver engaging courses remotely. Instead, an “Emergency Remote Teaching” model was adopted. Educators have had to take materials (including curriculum resources and assessments) created for use in a traditional learning environment and put them together for remote learning.
