A course is a grouping of students and the instructional materials they will use. More information may be found here.

Click on the Courses tab in the Codio dashboard and then click on the plus sign, in the upper left hand side of your workspace, to create a new course.

Once you have created your course, you can add modules by clicking on the plus sign in the upper right hand corner.

You must be in edit mode to add modules and assignments. If you don't see the plus sign and the background is white, click on the pencil in the upper right corner to switch modes.

Complete instructions for setting up a course in Codio may be found here.

Inside your course, you must be in edit mode to add modules and assignments. If you don't see the plus sign and the background is white, click on the pencil in the upper right corner to switch modes. Edit mode is signified by a grey background.

Click on the plus sign in the upper left hand corner to add a module to your course. Modules are groupings of related assignments.

You can choose to add an empty module or copy a module from an existing course. If you add an empty module, you can then create your own assignments or add projects from your workspace. Information about assigning a project to a course can be found here.

If you choose to copy from an existing course, Codio will bring up a list of all the courses you have access to and you can choose the module you are interested in. More information about copying existing material from another course may be found here.

More information about accessing assignments as a teacher may be found here.

Click on the Admin tab when viewing your course and find the Teachers section. Click Edit and then Add Teacher to add teachers. More information about adding teachers to a course may be found here.

If your Codio course is connected to a Learning Management System (LMS) via the LTI protocol, students will automatically be added to the course when they start their first assignment from their LMS.

When viewing your course, click on the Students tab. Click on Add one now. You can add "Test Students" or select one of two ways to share your course with students, by share code or via a link.  The video below demonstrates adding students in Codio.

The protocol for setting up a connection between an LMS system and an external tool is called Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI). Setting up an LTI connection requires getting the necessary parameters from Codio and providing them to the LMS system.

In most LMS systems the person setting up the LTI connection will need to have administrator status. In Codio, the person setting up the connection will need to have owner status.

The videos below show how to create LTI connections using newly created Codio courses. All the same information may be applied to your existing courses.

There are three basic ways to set up an LTI connection:

If your LMS application supports the LTI app, you can choose that method as long as you are using the same email address to login in to Codio and your LMS Application. You can find out which LMS systems support the LTI App by visiting eduappcenter.com.

If the LTI APP doesn’t work in your environment, you can connect via LTI Constant URL’s.

If you are creating an LMS course that you will use for multiple semesters, you should create a master course in Codio and enable the LTI fork and a master course in your LMS.  Using this method, you can copy the course in your LMS and it will create a new connected course for you in Codio.

Students are required to begin all their assignments in their LMS. If they try to start one of their assignments directly in Codio  you can make it easier for them to return to their LMS by adding the URL of their LMS course to their Codio settings.

You can connect Codio to Blackboard using LTI Constant URLs.

You can connect Codio to Moodle using the LTI Integration URL.

More information about connecting Codio to your LMS may be found in the technical documentation.
